Cutting-Edge Technology Mixes with the Entertainment Industry
One of the panels, titled “The Convergence of Tech and Storytelling,” was moderated by Justin Trevor Winters, an assistant professor for the School of Film and Television (SFTV). Winters — recently featured as a member of the University's “LMU Ignite” program — has been at the forefront of implementing artificial intelligence in the classroom. Starting in the fall 2024 semester, Winters will instruct an SFTV course titled “Producing and Screenwriting with AI” — the first of its kind in the department.

LMU School of Film and Television professor Justin Trevor Winters panel, The Convergence of Tech and Storytelling, will explore how businesses and creators can leverage cutting-edge technology successfully throughout the storytelling process. The futurist and CEO of the Web3 agency, Verified Labs, cements the importance of focusing on these issues. “Technology has the power to change the way we develop, produce, distribute, and monetize stories,” he says. “It levels the playing field and democratizes access, allowing more voices and perspectives to be heard in ways never before possible.”

Gen Z and Gen Alpha like to immerse themselves in digital worlds like Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft. They tend to prefer these environments to traditional film and television, says lecturer Justin Trevor Winters. Many children and young people also dedicate hours to these spaces every day. “This trend underscores the metaverse’s role as a vibrant digital playground, offering a wide array of entertainment beyond gaming that nurtures creativity, learning and social connections.”
